Vineyards
Giant Steps draws its fruit from long term contracted and supervised, distinctive vineyard sites in the Yarra Valley, including our own vineyard on the Warramate Ranges, the Tarraford Vineyard in nearby Tarrawarra, the Miller Vineyard, Gladysdale Vineyard & Arthurs Creek Vineyard.
We seek to grow fruit and make wine that is less overt and obvious than is encouraged in Australia.
We look for structure and length rather than breadth; finesse rather than largesse and above all, fruit rather than artefact.
All work is by hand. We strive to grow the best fruit possible. Whatever the cost. Because without great fruit there can be no great wine.

Miller vineyard
Located in the Dixons Creek area of the Yarra Valley, the Miller vineyard is 60-acres planted with a selection of red and white varieties, including Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Since 2004 Giant Steps has sourced Shiraz (clone 1654) from a seven and a half acre block, set aside and managed to Giant Steps' specifications. The twelve year old vines are cane pruned and established to a VSP (Vertical Shoot Position) trellis, allowing for effective canopy management. Vineyard management is intensive, with tasks such as shoot thinning, crop thinning and harvesting all carefully done by hand. Dixons Creek lies in the warmer side of the Yarra Valley. The vineyard is situated on an elevated northerly slope ideal for the Shiraz variety. The soils are typically duplex sedimentary clay loam and the site is free draining.
