Nero d'Avola 2022

Innocent Bystander

Minimum order of 1 case or 6 bottles (Mixed or straight)

Nero is the new black. This stylish and salacious red is the James Bond of grapes. Smooth, dry and perfectly poised to bring a hint of adventure and a dash of mystery to the table. Originally grown in the dry earth of Sicily, Nero is exceptionally well suited to the sun-drenched soils of northern Victoria.

Notes

  • Philip Rich, 2024 Halliday Wine Companion 02/08/2023

"The second harvest from Mystic Park in Swan Hill. No oak. A vibrant crimson purple, this is bursting with blue fruits and raspberry licorice allsorts, while the palate is ripe, slippery, juicy fruited and ready to rock!"

The winemaking process for the 2022 Nero d'Avola involved several key steps to craft a bright and youthful wine with vibrant flavours. The grapes underwent a cold soak for two days, followed by fermentation on the skins for 7-10 days in open top fermenters with regular hand plunging. After fermentation, the wine was aged in tank for 7 months to further develop its character. Vegan-friendly.

Growing Conditions

The 2022 growing season in the Murray Valley region was characterized by mild to warm conditions, which proved to be beneficial for the Nero d'Avola grapes. This resulted in excellent acidity, freshness, and remarkable fruit characters in the harvested grapes. The wine is made exclusively from 100% Nero d'Avola sourced from the Swan Hill district in Northern Victoria. The grapes were machine harvested at the end of March when they reached a baume level of 13, ensuring optimal ripeness and flavour development. These favourable growing conditions have contributed to the overall quality and expression of this Nero d'Avola wine.
